Welcome back to another edition of The Nightstand Series!
I am super excited to introduce you to my friend Stephenie AKA @reads.on.wednesdays today. She is a fellow boy mom and we have such a similar taste in books.
Nightstand Series Introduction:
Along with reading, I love to cook and bake and I habitually redecorate my house. I’m legally blind and a New Year’s baby. I’m an optimist but I dehydrate quickly. I’m horrible at fixing my hair but a total beauty product junkie. I have a crazy, out of hand, book/purse/vacuum buying habit, none of which are related.
My writing and blogging life started in 2005 after my youngest son was born, back when blogging was a brand new thing. I self-published a book, Living with Cheese Eaters and Bald-Headed Monkeys, in 2006 based on my weekly newspaper humor column about motherhood, Mama Wants More.
Through the years, my blog Reads on Wednesdays has naturally evolved and I made the decision in 2018 to refocus, rebrand, and rename my blog for one reason: books and reading are what I love most.
What Kind of Reader Are You?
I have definitely been a reader my whole life thanks to my mother who regularly took me to the library as a child. But my reading really hit a new level when I became pregnant with our first son over 18 years ago. I was so sick the entire nine months I could barely get out of bed and reading became one of the only things I felt like doing. Oprah’s Book Club and my local library saved me.
What Time of Day do You do Most of Your Reading?
I read every day of the week, not just on Wednesdays because every day deserves a good book. My book choices include contemporary fiction and literary fiction, and every once in awhile I like to throw in some short stories, a memoir, or some historical fiction in the mix.
Most of my reading is done early in the morning and right before bed. I love to sit with my current read and a cup of hot tea after everyone is off to work and school (back when that was still happening…) and read for a good hour before getting my day started. And I’ve been reading before bed for as long as I can remember!
What Books Are You Currently Reading?
Currently, I am reading anything that I light and easy. A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle is taking me to Provence, France which is EXACTLY what I need right now.
I also just started The Cruelest Month by Louise Penny, the third book in her Chief Armand Gamache series. Her cozy murder mysteries and the community of Three Pines is the perfect escape. I have been loving her series so far and everyone keeps saying the books will just keep getting better and better!
What books are you looking forward to reading?
I have so many books to look forward to reading like Other People’s Pets by R.L. Maizes, I Was Told It Would Get Easier by Abbi Waxman, Friends and Strangers by J. Courtney Sullivan, Brunch and Other Obligations by Suzanne Nugent, and Bear Necessity by James Gould-Bourn.
What are you currently listening to?
Currently, I am listening to These Ghosts are Family by Maisy Card and Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies by Tara Schuster on Libro.fm.
I also love the podcasts The Office Ladies and The Popcast. Those are two podcasts that I always listen to right when they release each week. They both crack me up and I find myself laughing out loud while scrubbing toilets while wearing my headphones.
What else is on your nightstand?
Always on my nightstand are some of my favorite family photos, my essential oil diffuser and some lavender oil, my Beautycounter hand lotion, and my booklight (my husband usually falls asleep before I do), my Kindle, and always, always a bunch of books.
Thank you so much for sharing today, Stephenie! I can’t wait to read your review for Abbi Waxman’s I Was Told It Would Get Easier, it is at on the top of my summer reading listing!
