Recent Reads & Ratings

Why I am “giving up” on Monthly Recaps…

I have decided something, I am giving up on monthly recaps… I love sharing a recap of what I have read lately, but I think I need to stop trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Let’s face it, I am a disorganized reader. I read for pleasure, to escape, and oftentimes to learn, but what I don’t like is to read when it feels like pressure. I have enough of that in my “real life”, LOL.

I loosely use my Goodreads account to keep track of what I have already read and the books I have my eye on but otherwise, it is kind of a mess. I often forget to update it when I have started or finished a book and this often results in inaccurate dates of when I read them. I don’t use an excel spreadsheet to track my reading or a beautiful book journal, although I do admire the people that do.
For a couple of years, I would try to accurately represent what I read each month, frantically looking back on my Instagram and blog, trying to decipher if I finished one at the very end of one month or the beginning of the next.
I put way too much energy into this and then I got burned out. I don’t think I have shared a monthly recap in a few months now but when I did, they were rarely ‘on time”. This has become somewhat of a joke with some of my reading buddies but it also felt like this silly thing I want still wishing I could get my life together for and complete.

 Introducing…Recent Reads & Ratings!

But the thing is, I really do enjoy a summarized look at what someone has read and of course their ratings for it. And so this is my decision, I am going to regularly share a “recent reads and ratings” post that has all of what I love to share without the unnecessary pressure of knowing if I read them in one month or the next, or if I am missing a couple.
I can’t believe it took me this long to realize I could decide how to do it, but here we are! In order to keep sharing book content, I have realized that some things need to be simplified and this seems like one way to do that. So, here is a recap of some of the books I have read in the last month or so!
(I also summarized this post over on @genthebookworm this morning if you would like to join in on the conversation!)
