Welcome to Gen The Bookworm!
Hi there! I am Genevieve Trono. I am an avid reader, professional photographer, wife, and mom. I live in Vermont and I have been a lifelong book lover. I started reviewing books in 2015 and I decided to make it official with a website and social media account, @genthebookworm, in 2018.
I love connecting with other readers, authors, and publishers through this amazing reading community. In addition to being a bookworm, I love power walking with a friend (and our pup!), documenting our life with my iPhone, spending time with my family outside, and speed cleaning our house while listening to true crime podcasts and audiobooks. And above all, I think life is always better with a book.

Reading Life:
As a child, my family owned a small bookstore and that is where a lot of my happy childhood memories are from. I spent many days after school reading in between the bookshelves. I loved the idea that books were a whole other world you could escape into, and I found so much comfort in books as a child. I was a huge fan of the Baby-Sitters Club and Judy Blume books, especially Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
Book Reviewer:
In my free time, I review books for publishing companies by reading advanced reader copies of soon-to-be-released books. I love helping generate buzz for books and making book recommendations based on genre or specific interests.
One of my favorite parts of this is being able to interact with authors on social media. It still gives me a thrill when they comment on something I have shared. There are many downsides to social media, but it also can help bring people together from all over the world in such a positive way.
Library books, Kindle Reading & More:
I love buying books but I a huge library reader and it has been such a great way to read books without feeling the bigger commitment of purchasing them first. I love getting a huge library haul and always having a few options to choose from. The Libby App has also been life-changing for me as a library and Ebook reader.
I am a big Kindle reader and love how transportable it is. I read so much more during the day now that I have a Kindle because I always have something with me to read, day or night. I fit a lot of my reading in while I am on the go and often in short periods of time throughout the day…you can read more about that HERE.
I read a lot of ARC ebooks through NetGalley and I also love the thrill of finding Kindle Book Deals. can follow along on my Gen The Bookworm Facebook Page where I regularly share these ebook deals.
Mood Reader…
I am not a big planner with my reading and really like to read different genres depending on my mood. I have no problem trying out a book and stopping if it doesn’t seem like a good fit. There are too many amazing books to read one that you really aren’t enjoying.
Reading Genres:
My favorite genres to discuss include contemporary fiction, family sagas, domestic suspense/mysteries, memoirs, self-help, personal growth/development, and motherhood/parenting. I
I steer clear of fantasy, sci-fi and have a complicated relationship with psychological thrillers because I often am intrigued by them but rarely love them.
One of the things I love about books is the places they are able to bring me. Books have opened my eyes to so many different cultures and ideas and they have been a big part of me becoming the person I am today.
Life and Family:
My husband I were married in 2009 and we have two sons who are 10 & 12, a very affectionate Springer Spaniel named Buzz and a cat named Ford, we we adopted last summer from the Chittenden County Humane’s Society! We live on a small family farm in Chittenden County Vermont. We are Vermonters for life, as our family owns a local business, so I have really tried to embrace our life here.
As they say, there is no bad weather, only the wrong clothing! Winter can feel really long here so you have to have hobbies that get you outside to enjoy it. We love swimming and boating on the lake in the summer, hiking on local trails in the fall, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating and playing in the snow in the winter, and exploring and playing in the mud in the spring. Having something we enjoy doing outside every season of the year has really helped us enjoy our life here so much.
My Career:
I graduated from college with a degree in psychology and worked as a case manager and then moved to the marketing field before we had children. After our first son was born I became very interested in photography and learned how to use a DSLR camera, mostly by trial and error.
I then went on to take online classes and eventually started working as a second shooter for a local photographer and friend. I enjoyed the work I did before kids but also recognized how helpful it would be to have a job that could be a bit more flexible.
Professional Photographer Life
I am a photographer and mostly do behind the scenes work at Kristy Dooley Photography. I spend a lot of my work days editing in Lightroom and Photoshop which makes plenty of time for audiobooks! I love the creativity and flexibility of this work and that I get to be a part of a team. I also teach photography classes with my friend and co-worker Kristy and it is my very favorite part of my work. There is nothing like sharing something you are passionate about with an amazing group of people.
And Now Some Randomness…
Caffeine Queen!
I will never say no to another coffee or green tea even in the late afternoon and I can still fall asleep at 9pm..
Sun Protection is my thing!
You will never find me in the sun without a hat, sunglasses, and an awful lot of UV protection…I always will choose to sit in the shade and I can’t stand being too hot!
So Many Books So Little Time…
I try so hard, but I don’t think my books will ever totally organized. I like seeing them all over my house, it makes me very happy.
Inspirational Quotes:
I love inspirational quotes and I also really try to share both the ups and downs of life. Life is better when you don’t feel alone and I always try to remember that. <3
