Good morning and happy Sunday! This post will be short and sweet today as we are getting ready to head off on a foliage drive up to our family’s camp for the day. The fall colors are in their peak up there and I can’t wait to soak it all in before we enter “stick season” in just a few weeks…
Before we headed out I wanted to make sure I shared these great Kindle Book Deals, which consist of some engrossing contemporary fiction, a go-to thriller, a fantastic memoir I loved and some great non-fiction. If you are looking for some new reading, you are in the right place!

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and that you have some time to kick back and relax now. We hosted Christmas Eve and Christmas so there wasn’t a lot of reading time around here but I am hoping to have a low key day today. Lucas is back at work and the kids are excited about their new gifts and are having one of their buddies over, so I am hoping the stars align for some lazy daytime reading on the couch.
Did any of you get a new Kindle reader for the holidays? If you did, you should check out my post about all things Kindle Reading…including utilizing the Libby App which allows you access to thousands of books for FREE, all with just your library card! I have the Kindle Paperwhite but a lot of this is applicable whether you have that or just the regular Kindle.
More about Kindle Deals
While I love reading through Libby, I also love building up my “Kindle Bookshelf” so I always have something that I read I am excited about…without worrying about holds and return timeframes.
Kindle Book Deals
Today there are some great Kindle Book Deals, including some that are the perfect easy holiday reading, a few from my 2019 favorites list and some that are on my own TBR list. Enjoy!!
Parkland is on my own TBR list and I have heard amazing things about it. I read Columbine, also by Dave Cullen a few years ago and it is one I will never forget. If you are looking for a powerful and thought-provoking read, this is a great option.
If you are looking for a book to start off 2020 with a more proactive mindset, You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero is the book to read. While her writing style might not be for everyone, some of the topics in this book are seriously life-changing. Jen Sincero is unapologetic about setting and reaching your goals using growth and abundance mindsets. I cannot tell you how much the ideas in this book have helped me in both personal and professional settings.
The only part I really disagree with is the idea that you can just “choose to just feel better when you are feeling down.” NO. Depression, anxiety, and any other mental health issues are very real, and NOT something you can just think away with good thoughts and getting help is always okay.
I feel like this is important to share because this book was so empowering for me in SO many ways, but this part is troubling to me. So this book is a 5-star read for me with that one BIG caveat!
I know it is probably hard to believe but Regretting You was my first Colleen Hoover book EVER!! Her books have been recommended to me for years but I just didn’t know where to start. When I saw an advanced copy of Regretting You on NetGalley I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about. I was immediately drawn into the storyline and found it to be a totally engrossing read.
I was pleasantly surprised that Hoover took on some deeper and thought-provoking topics. My favorite part of this book was how it dealt with grief and loss and I loved seeing this from multiple perspectives. There is a YA romance that was enjoyable enough but also a little predictable but the other parts really shined through this for me.
The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates
“Every society says its outsiders are the problem. But the outsiders are not the problem; the urge to create outsiders is the problem. Overcoming that urge is our greatest challenge and our greatest promise. It will take courage and insight, because the people we push to the margins are the ones who trigger in us the feelings we’re afraid of.”
Through stories from her own life and women around the world, Melinda Gates shares an inspiring book that is also a call to action for everyone. Highly recommend!
Parenting is hard and sometimes you just need to laugh. Humor can get you through so much and Gelman’s writing style is relatable and witty. You’ve Been Volunteered is the follow-up book to her first novel, Class Mom.
Gelman succeeds at makes light of things that most any parent with school-aged children can relate to. enjoyed that while the book was humorous she was able to address so many very real issues that parents deal with. If you have, or ever have had kids in school, you will love this one!
I’m Fine and Neither Are You takes on some heavy topics including substance abuse, loss, family dynamics, infidelity, the struggles of long term relationships and finding your voice, all while being a completely engaging read. Camille Pagan is one of my favorite authors and I love how readable her writing always is. You can read my full review HERE.
Trophy Life is a fun and entertaining read that had a lot more depth than I initially expected. I was thinking that Agnes might be vapid or unrelatable but she was anything but. This book covered motherhood, friendship, disappointment, self-discovery and finding your own path in life. You can read my full review HERE.
This story follows three generations of Palestinian women who live in Brooklyn and their struggle to break the mold that generations prior have set before them. We are lucky to live in a country where it’s easy for us to advocate and vocalize opinions but it is easy to forget how many people still live in oppression.
A Woman is No Man is heartbreaking and Rum’s writing gives a voice to the many women who are still struggling to find their own. This was an eye-opening read for me and it also was a powerful reminder of how hard it can be to break the cycles that have been set in families and communities for generations. You can read my full review HERE.
Winter in Paradise is the first book in Elin Hilderbrand’s Paradise Series that is set in St. John USVI. After enjoying the Winter Street Series so much, I was so excited to have a new one to binge on.
Book number two, What Happens in Paradise, came out this past October and I can’t wait for the final installment, Troubles in Paradise, in the fall of 2020!

Who is ready for some holiday reading? I know I am! I love stocking up on kindle deals for this kind of occasion. While I read a lot from the Libby app, there is something about grabbing a kindle deal that has no timeframe for when you read it! Kindle deals are a great and low-pressure way to read things you might not normally select.
Dysfunctional Family Dramas
I grabbed A Nearly Normal Family which has been on my TBR list and I can’t wait to dive in. I had been on the fence about it for a while but when Sarah’s Book Shelves recommended it to me, I knew it was worth a shot because we enjoy so many of the same books. If you are into dysfunctional family dramas like I am, I would also suggest All This Could Be Yours by Jami Attenberg!
Inspiring & Powerful Reads
A Woman is No Manby Etaf Rum is on my list of top powerful reads of 2019 and The Moment of Lift is inspiring and would be a great book to start off 2020.
Easy & Engaging Reads
I have heard great things about American Royals(* FYI this one is now $4.99) by Katharine McGee and You’ve Been Volunteered by Laurie Gelman is hilarious and relatable if you have ever had the experience of having school-aged children! You can read my full review HERE.
CoHo, A Classic & Our January 2020 Book Club Selection
After reading Regretting You, I am fulling on the Colleen Hoover bandwagon! It Ends With Us is on my list and I am working up the courage to read Verity!
The Giver is one of those classics that I am excited to introduce to our older son. He has been way into some of the books I read at his age like Hatchet and it makes me so happy.
Finally, The Gift of Failureis AMAZING and is also our January 2020 Better Together Book Club Selection! You can read more about our book club and our upcoming book discussion with author Jessica Lahey HERE.

Our older son has been reading the first one and I used this deal to grab books 2-4 for him for Christmas and he is going to be so excited. I still haven’t read them, but his enthusiasm for them has been intriguing!
Both of our boys love the Dog Man series and Wonder is our older son’s very favorite book. Mo Willems and The First Little Readers were great early reader books for both our kids and helped us get in the routine of them reading every night!
You can’t go wrong with any of these choices! Strega Nona was one of my childhood favorites and our kids love reading it too. All of these are tried and true favorites in our house!
How Do I Find Out What Other Books Qualify for This Deal?
