Is there a book that everyone has read but you?! 📖⁣⁣Verity is that one for me and I am not even sure why!! I talked about Colleen Hoover a couple of weeks ago and my struggle with her most recent novel, Layla. As hard as I tried, I just could not suspend the disbelief, and I just could not get into it...👻🙃⁣⁣But I have really enjoyed some of her other books, and one thing is for certain, #colleenhoover knows how to write an engrossing read! And I love that she doesn't confine herself to a single genre. Regretting You was a 180 from Layla, and you have to respect that! 🙌⁣⁣So, if I had to classify myself as a reader, I would say I love to read about people and that can be through fiction and non-fiction...fast-paced suspense and slower character-driven novels...self-help, or memoirs. Ultimately, I like to learn about why people are the way they are! 💓✨⁣⁣ I enjoy a little dysfunction, lots of vulnerability, and plenty of details. What I struggle with is believability. This is probably why I have a hard time with fantasy or books that do a 180 at the end for the shock value without any reasons WHY-which is a lot of thrillers these days...🤯⁣⁣So during 2021, I am hoping to catch up on some of my #backlistbooks. This is always a goal for me as a reader...but I tend to get totally distracted by all the exciting new releases.😅And Verity seemed like it would be a great way to start. 💃🏻⁣⁣Have you read Verity?! What did you think? I would love to hear your thoughts! 💭 ...

Let's talk about used books! 📚📚⁣⁣I am a reader, but I also consider myself somewhat of a book collector. I have many friends who pass along books as soon as they finish them...which is inspiring to me, in the same way as say, people having a capsule wardrobe...nice for you, not for me. 😆🙃👀⁣⁣While I am happy to share my books, I have a very hard time giving them away forever. There is something about walking by them, seeing them on the shelf, and being reminding of the time and place you were when you read it. Remembering the characters and how the book made you feel, there is just is nothing like it. 🥰✨⁣⁣I do read audiobooks, library books and ebooks and still, if I love them, I will buy a hard copy for my own bookshelves. And one of my favorite ways of doing this is by used book shopping! There is nothing like going on the hunt for a favorite book and finding it when you least expect it. Books from long ago, recent titles, kids books, you can find them all! 🙌🛍⁣⁣Pre-pandemic, I would make this outing into a nice little coffee date with myself, perusing the bookshelves while sipping on a latte. Now that we are limiting unnecessary shopping trips (except sometimes to Home Goods 🙊)I have been finding used books online. ⁣⁣I used Thriftbooks for the first time last week and it was a great experience. I also have my fingers crossed that our library book sale is back for summer 2021 because it is THE BEST! 📖🎉⁣⁣Do you enjoy the hunt for used books too? Where do you find them? I would love to hear! 💓 ...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ Family drama ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣
⁣
Family dramas make up some of my very favorite books of all time(The Most Fun We Ever Had and The Dearly Beloved for example), but like many readers, I had a hard time getting into these types of deeper dive novels during the past year. Did this happen for you too? ⁣
⁣
When a glimmer of much-needed hope finally felt like it was indeed on the horizon, I decided it was time to try again. And then I saw some raving reviews from some of my most trusted book sources for What Could Be Saved, I knew it was a sign. ✨⁣
⁣
I decided to do my tried and true reading approach of alternating reading and listening to this title, and wow! Do you listen to fiction books on audio? It’s an amazing way to get full immersed in a storyline. 💓⁣
⁣
While this book is hard to describe in a sentence or two, What Could Be Saved gives us a deeper look into a family that looks beautiful on the outside but when the curtains are pulled back, layers of turmoil are exposed.⁣
⁣
Told through dual timelines, present-day in Washington D.C. and Bangkok in the 1970s, this novel quickly immerses you in the Preston family and their many layers. ⁣
⁣
Laura, the main character is the youngest sibling and every part of her life has been shaped by the disappearance of her brother, Phillip, 40+ years ago.⁣
⁣
While there is a mystery to this story, the unraveling of these multifaceted and imperfect family members is just as fascinating. The story of a family torn apart and the burdens they still carry today highlighted one of my favorite parts of reading, the complexities of being human, and the ever-present question, is there ever really just one person at fault?⁣
⁣
The classicism, of the women living and working with the Preston family in Thailand, added a whole other dimension to this storyline and was one of the most powerful parts of the storyline for me. This book is just beautifully written, utterly absorbing and one I will never forget. 🙌⁣
⁣
Thank you to @atriabooks for my gifted copy. I purchased my audiobook copy through @librofm and highly recommended the narrator Lisa Flannagan if you decide to go that reading route. 🎧
⁣ If I have been reminded of anything over and o ⁣
If I have been reminded of anything over and over again during the last four years, it is this. “It shouldn't have to happen to you for it to matter to you” {via @ohhappydani} 🙌✨⁣
⁣
During Trump's presidency, I have personally learned that tolerance is a form of distancing ourselves from injustices. And that inaction can be just as harmful as those who are perpetuating inequities. ⁣
⁣
That peace doesn't just come from just love but also from getting mad. That standing up for what is wrong, and fighting together for a better future for all of us is not only important but necessary. ⁣
⁣
I wasn't marching in the streets four years ago like many of my friends and neighbors and I wish I had been. I have learned that being uncomfortable and staying in that feeling anyway is what ultimately pushes you forward. I will no longer tolerate inaction from myself and I hope you will join me. 💓⁣
⁣
While there is much work to be done, there is also so much hope. Here's to a new day in America. Happy Inauguration Day President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris! 💙🇺🇸
